The world of digital marketing is ever-changing. Social media platforms are constantly updating and improving their services, and with that, businesses are given more and more opportunities to connect and engage with their audiences. It can be overwhelming to have so many tools and resources at your disposal, but don’t fret, we’ve got you covered!

We’ve kept an eye out for all the latest and greatest in digital marketing. Here’s everything you need to know about this month in digital marketing.

Branded Content on Facebook

You’ve seen branded content before and might not have even recognized it, but it’s becoming commonplace in society today. Many big brands like to collaborate with celebrities and influencers because of their large follower-base. So when you see a photo of a celebrity or influencer not so casually posing with a can of Coke, they’re most likely being paid to do it. It’s hard to not notice the “#ad” in their Instagram caption.

In the last month or so, Facebook has updated its policy and even created a new tool for branded content. The updated policy requires the person publishing the content to tag the marketing organization in an effort to make it clear to followers that it is branded content. This will help both parties gain more exposure.

Additionally, Facebook has developed a tool that allows the publisher to tag the marketing organization in the post. Once they’re tagged, they will have access to post insights and metrics and will have an easier time sharing and boosting the post.

Instagram Business Tools

Last year, Instagram gave businesses the opportunity to advertise on the photo and video-sharing platform. Since then, Instagram has been interviewing and working with businesses to find out how the service can be improved upon and they listened.

Just recently, Instagram announced it will be launching new tools for business users, small and medium-sized business users in particular. The tools will include new business profiles, improved analytics, and the ability to create ads directly from Instagram instead of using Facebook. Additionally, businesses will be able to put a contact button in the ad so followers can get in touch with the business via phone call, text, email, or whatever form the business prefers – a major improvement over businesses having to comb through hundreds of comments on the post. These updates will be rolling out in the coming months.

Goodbye 140-Character Limit…Kind Of

Have you ever had to sacrifice proper grammar, a photo, a link, or an @mention on Twitter because of the dreaded 140-character limit? Not anymore!

This month Twitter announced that certain aspects of tweets will no longer count toward the 140-character limit.

The following will no longer take your precious characters away:

  • When you reply to a tweet, their Twitter handle will no longer take up any characters
  • Media attachments, including: photos, GIFs, videos, polls, or Quote Tweets
  • You no longer have to put a period in front of Tweets that begin with an @mention, all of your followers will see all of your Tweets

Twitter says these updates will becoming available in the next few months.
