Is your to-do list getting the better of you? Many small business owners report feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or just generally bogged down by the number of tasks that they need to accomplish.

It doesn’t need to be this way! If you’re struggling to check things off of your list, these three time management tips can put your never-ending task-list into perspective so you can start accomplishing your goals now.

3 Time Management Tips to Try Today

One: One Thing At a Time

Many busy people find themselves dealing with deadline anxiety on a regular basis. Feeling overwhelmed by the number of tasks you have to complete in a certain time can often lead to the exact opposite happening. One of the best time management tips I’ve ever received was to focus on one thing at a time. If it sounds basic, it’s because it is. In order to take steps towards checking a project off of your to-do list, try breaking things down into smaller, more manageable pieces. Then, take direct action to ensure to complete each mini-step. Before you know it, you’ll be wrapping up projects left and right!

Two: Time Blocking

According to Forbes, the Time Blocking technique is a favored strategy among highly successful business people and creatives. The Time Blocking technique allows you to organize your day into a series of time slots. Instead of writing a list of tasks that can take an indiscriminate amount of time, the time block approach has you devote specific periods of time to a task (i.e. one hour responding to email). The great thing about this strategy is that it allows you to be realistic about how you spend your time. It also helps you to see where you are affording projects too little or too much of your day. Time Blocking can also help you be more focused and productive, as each period is hyper focused on a singular task or set of tasks.

Three: The Pomodoro Technique

Another favorite among entrepreneurs is the Pomodoro technique. Designed to help you sift through distractions and achieve your goals through short bursts of energy, the Pomodoro technique is great for those of us with seemingly endless to-do lists and those who are feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of having to tackle many projects at once. Basically, the Pomodoro technique has you follow these steps:

  1. Choose a task to be accomplished.
  2. Set a timer for 25 minutes.
  3. Work on the task until the timer rings.
  4. Take a short break (5-10 minutes).
  5. Take a longer break after you have completed four 25-minute sets.
