From helping design additions on mansions in Martha’s Vineyard to launching her own floral design business from scratch, Britni Jeziorski has had an incredible career journey so far – and she’s not even 30 yet.

Montana-born, Britni Jeziorski grew up in Billings and studied architecture at Montana State University in Bozeman. After graduating with her Masters, she quickly landed a job at an architecture firm in Boston, Massachusetts where she has thrived for many years. But ultimately, she felt there was something missing from her work. Something didn’t feel right about the future of her career in architecture.

This year, Britni is making the leap to entrepreneurship! She is currently working to leave the architecture world behind in order to dedicate her days to launching her floral design business, Two Stems of Joy.

And business for Two Stems of Joy is picking up quickly. She’s done a variety of weddings, engagement parties, and other such events in the Boston area, Maine, New Hampshire, and Arizona. Her incredible skills range from large scale, dreamy floral installations to creating lovingly personalized bouquets, boutonnieres, and flower crowns. In fact, every single flower arrangement featured in this post is hers.

I met Britni when I was a freshman in college, and she was kind enough to create all of the unique (and wildly beautiful) bouquets and boutonnieres for my wedding last year. I can personally attest to her talent and creativity – not to mention her commitment to an excellent customer experience.

She worked with me every step of the way in choosing the colors, types of greenery, flowers, weight, ribbons, and style. Check out the proof of her gorgeous work: my wedding bouquet and husband’s boutonniere (see below!)

New small businesses bloom into existence every single day – but how many of those small businesses can say they’ve had such an interesting and successful start?

Well, we wanted to know more. What did she do to create a thriving business and how did she make the decision to pivot her career? We reached out to Britni to get some of her designer #girlboss wisdom, and here’s what she had to say.

How This #Girlboss Transformed Her Passion Into a Business

If you could share any advice with a new small business owner, what would that be?

Treat every part of your business as a learning opportunity. Having that kind of mindset will help lessen the internal setbacks you experience when you encounter obstacles and will empower you when the hard work pays off and you succeed.

Even if you don’t have time to read books, go to seminars, etc. to learn about effective business building, you can still look for the learning opportunities in your work day and use them as leverage to make your business (and yourself!) better.

What did you want to be when you were little?

I always wanted to be a Broadway star – dancing and singing were some of my favorite things to do as a kid!

Do you have a favorite quote that you live by?

Thomas Edison’s quote, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work,” has been a favorite since high school. I was lucky to have parents and teachers that taught me the value of a strong work ethic so now no matter what goal I try to tackle, I’m not afraid of the work that is required to achieve it.

When you decided to start your business, why did you choose to go with floral design?

My business grew out of a floral design hobby, so the hobby started when I brought home some leftover flowers from a photo shoot that had happened at my job as a junior architect.

I had been trying to find a new hobby that was creative and tactile but wasn’t exceedingly time consuming, and as I was complaining to my roommate about not knowing what hobby I should try, I looked at the flowers on the kitchen table and had a genuine light-bulb moment of realizing that I should try floral design.

I very quickly fell in love with floral design and the endless possibilities it held, started a floral design blog to give myself some structure, and within a year completed an internship with a professional florist and two weddings for close friends. After I finished my internship, I started to seriously contemplate switching careers into full time floral design.

What made you decide to shift careers?

After finishing a floral design internship, I not only realized that I loved working bigger floral events like weddings, but I also realized that the obstacles I faced in the floral design world energized me and made me excited to problem solve and discover new ways of doing things.

In my architecture job, I often felt paralyzed by the unknown and quite resistant to try hard things out of fear of failure, but something about floral design helped me shed that fear and find excitement in dreaming up new and challenging designs. For me, that was the biggest indicator that this was the better fit professionally.

What inspires you to do what you do every day?

I’m a very visual, observant person who loves color, texture, and attention to fine detail, so I find inspiration in almost anything I see around me.

For color palette inspiration, I could spend hours getting lost in the Design Seeds website! Their color combinations are pulled directly from stunning photographs, and the whole website is a color lover’s dream.

And finally, we have to know: what’s your ultimate pump-up jam before a busy day at work?

It’s a toss-up between “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse (the Mark Ronson remix) or “Fear” by Ben Rector.
