3 Ways You Can Prevent Work Burnout

We’ve all been there. The to-do list is growing instead of shrinking, you’re starting to get overwhelmed, and the only thing you can think about is how many more minutes until you can leave and go home.

These are all classic signs of work burnout, and it happens to the best of us.

If you’re sick of being exhausted and are looking for a way to turn things around, we’ve got you covered!

Try these 3 simple tricks to avoid work burnout.

Schedule Your Free Time

We don’t want to make free time sound like a chore or just another thing to put on the to-do list, but scheduling your free time can be really helpful. It gives you something to look forward to, and you’ll be able to tell you friends and family definitive times when you’re available.

Most importantly, create rules for your free time. Remind yourself to not check your email or to take phone calls. Creating this divide between work-life and home-life will help you truly enjoy the time you have off.

Recharge

Many of us sit down at our desks early in the morning and we don’t leave until we’re done working for the day.  Staying stationary the majority of the day is unhealthy for both your body and your mind!

We need to take breaks throughout the day in order to keep our energy levels up. If you’re finding it hard to keep working, stop what you’re doing, get up and walk around for 10 minutes. Grab a glass of water, make a quick (non-work related) phone call, do whatever you need to do for 10 minutes that will help you reset so you’re ready to finish the day.  If you need to, take multiple breaks throughout the day to avoid work burnout!

Exercise

Elle Woods said it best when she said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy!” It’s true.  Exercising is a healthy and natural way to relieve stress. And it will help you combat all that sitting you do at work!

Try to exercise at least three times a week. It will keep you in shape, and give you at least three hours a week where you are not thinking about work or your to-do list!

It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed by work from time to time. Next time you’re too stressed to do one more thing, try one of these 3 tips to prevent work burnout!
