The Power of Video in Social Media Marketing

Video marketing is the future of social media marketing, and we’re not the only ones who think so. Haven’t you noticed that social media platforms are making it easier and easier to share and publish videos? It’s because they know that’s what our audiences want. But you don’t have to take our word for it…

According to Animoto, “4X as many customers would rather watch a video about a product than read about it.”

And in HubSpot’s The State of Inbound 2016 they found, “45% of people watch more than an hour of Facebook or YouTube videos a week.”

What makes video so powerful in social media marketing?

Our audiences like videos because it’s an easily digestible form of media where they’re told everything they need to know instead of having to put in the effort of reading. Plus, there’s the added benefit of the visual component.

It may seem like a lot of work to put together an appealing video instead of just writing a blog or a tweet about your product or service, but the benefits outweigh the upfront work you’re putting in. Social media users are more likely to share and reshare a video than any other type of content. That can lead to explosive engagement for your company.

Another benefit of using videos in social media marketing strategies is that you get to address your audience in a way that no other medium allows. Do you think your audience can get a great sense of who you are and who your brand is by reading a blog every once in awhile? Sure, you can spend time crafting your tone and voice all you want, but a video can convey so much more than text. When done right, videos can give your audience the perfect taste of your brand to instill trust not only in your products, but in you.

What type of video should I make?

If we’ve successfully convinced you that video marketing is an effective strategy, that’s awesome! Now you just need to figure out what kind of video you’re going to create first! Below are some great jumping off points.

  1. A demo of your product or service
  2. A tip of the week relevant to your industry to position yourself as an industry expert, and not just a sales person
  3. Q&As where customers get the opportunity to engage with you directly
  4. Testimonials – because if a customer took the time to film themselves instead of writing 100 words, they must really love your company

Don’t be intimidated by the idea of incorporating video into your social media marketing strategy. We’re not saying you need a new video every week (although, if you did that, it would be pretty great!). But throwing in a new video every once in awhile will keep your content fresh, and your audience engaged.

So if you haven’t already, give it a shot and get filming!
