Girl Boss: Nancy Hetrick, Smarter Divorce Solutions
Nancy Hetrick, owner and founder of Smarter Divorce Solutions, decided to start her business after discovering the divorcing process was less than ideal. She’s made it her mission to help couples go through a divorce that is as simple and affordable as possible. Read below for more information about Nancy’s experience owning Smarter Divorce Solutions!
1) What does a typical day in the life of Nancy Hetrick look like?
Wake up at 5:30am to be at work by about 6:30 or so. Typically my entire day is blocked out on my Google calendar with appointments, tasks, networking activities, board meetings, etc. The day usually goes until about 4-5 pm but about 2 times a week I‘ll have evening activities as well. I really don’t like to do evening events as I’m a total morning person and by about 4pm, my brain pretty much shuts down and I’m pretty useless. Lol! Then it’s home to spend quality time with my amazing husband!
2) What specific advice would you have for young women who would like to become an entrepreneur?
FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY!!!!! Most women are held back by their own confidence issues. In general, we tend to think that unless we can do it perfectly, we shouldn’t even try. BULL! Figure it out as you go. This is a world of Google
information at your fingertips and you can learn anything you need to.
3) Being a #girlboss can be hard! Thankfully, there’s technology available to make jobs easier. What are 2 things you would recommend an aspiring #girlboss add to her arsenal?
A good CRM (Customer Relationship Management software) is a MUST! There are many available for free. I use Less Annoying CRM for a small charge and it keeps my whole world in order so no balls get dropped.
Be on the cloud. My entire business is cloud-based. Every file, every program, every piece of data. ANY one of my 4 different computer access points could blow up overnight and absolutely nothing would be lost.
4) What’s next for Smarter Divorce Solutions? Where do you hope it will be in 10 years?
Smarter Divorce is offering a whole new way to go through the divorce process that is kinder, gentler, and FAR more affordable while making sure the individuals are fully educated about their options. Divorce does NOT have to cost
your entire net worth and destroy your family. To that end, I have begun training other professionals around the country to use a similar approach. In 10 years, I expect to have multiple locations across the country and through my newest venture, The CDFA Training Center, be providing in-depth training to professionals around the country to ensure that EVERY couple facing divorce knows there is a different option.
5) What are your words to live by?
You only have one chance at this life. Why choose mediocrity? You are fully capable of achieving anything you put your mind to. The power is in your hands. If things don’t change, things don’t change.
6) Sometimes our mistakes and setbacks actually advance us the most in life and change our perspective. What do you think were the most important mistakes you’ve learned from?
Last year I made some VERY expensive mistakes around hiring and firing and I’m so glad I did. Sometimes the only way you get clear on what is the right action to take is by taking action that doesn’t work out. I now look forward to my next
failure as just an opportunity to revise, refine, and refocus and check off the list the adventure that didn’t work out. You don’t know unless you try.
